Use Case: 7-Way Active-Active Replication
This is the world's larget N-Way Oracle GoldenGate Replication
I’ve designed the world’s largest N-Way Oracle GoldenGate implementation. The prototype architected using 7-way GoldenGate architecture running within Saudi Arabia. The source database setup using Oracle GoldenGate integrated capture, which is designed to perform transaction logs shipping to all participated sites.
To support such complex GoldenGate replication, using a combination of Oracle GoldenGate internal conflicts detection and resolution (CDR) and a custom-built PL/SQL conflicts detection and resolution. The default GoldenGate CDR handle the majority of database transaction, however; due to security setup at the application level, the custom CDR is used to handle it.
The architecture depicts the internal components. It shows how the data movement is delivered from the integrated capture instance to all participated Oracle GoldenGate participated instances. Due to the required level of security requirements, data encryptions are enabled during data capture, transport and apply.
The following is the full scale implementation details.
This diagram illustrates the components and the flow of trails across all database systems. Because Oracle GoldenGate is highly modular, a configuration parameters file for each is created as shown. Extract, data pumps and apply processes. In this particular large-scale replication environment, the data flow achieved as follow:
PHASE 1: The remote database send data the HQ database
PHASE 2: The HQ database send data to other instances
Download Chapter 5 of my book, it explains and implements the process in depth.
Use Case: Real-Time Billing
One of the core challenges for telecommunications companies is call billing. It all revolves around Call Detail Record (CDR) processing, as each call is a transaction. When a call is picked up by a tower, it must receive an approval signal, and once the call is completed successfully, it must be billed.
Can we do billing in Real-Time?
Yes, we can. CDRs are pushed to mediation systems where processing happens in two phases. The first layer ensures the consistency of the CDR batch and maps it for the next phase. The second phase pushes the CDRs to two systems: the billing system, which loads flat files into an Oracle Database, and the ODS (Operational Data Store) system.
The ODS system uses Oracle GoldenGate to continuously generate trail files ready for consumption. This telecommunications company uses a Big Data Kafka cluster to consume those trails. The Kafka cluster is used for various purposes, such as call auditing and numerous query-based applications.
So, when you make a mobile call in Saudi Arabia, it is likely being processed using Oracle GoldenGate!
